What is Reiki?
Reiki is a type of alternative healing therapy.
It was developed by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist, in 1922. The word can be broken down into two meanings. “Rei” means God’s wisdom or higher power. “Ki” is the life force energy. Reiki is the universal life force.
Reiki works by balancing the body’s energy field and energy centers (chakras). It can work to relieve stress and promote deep states of relaxation that can aid the body’s natural healing process. Reiki intends to put the body in its optimal state to promote its own healing, thus helping to balance the spirit, relieve pain, and promote well-being.
The delivery of Reiki requires no conscious effort on the part of the Reiki practitioner. The Reiki practitioners function is to be a passive channel, allowing the energy to pass through her chakras, travel to the palms of her hands and fingertips, into the cells of the recipient.
While not a replacement for medical or psychological treatment, Reiki therapy can be used to complement and support other health care protocols to help relieve side effects and promote recovery. It has become recognized by many physicians, hospitals, and hospice providers for its beneficial effects.

What is Absentee/Distance Reiki?
Absentee Reiki (also known as Distance Reiki) is a technique that allows the practitioner to offer a Reiki session without the client being in the same room or geographic location. Energy transfers across the time/ space continuum, there is no such thing as physical distance when it comes to Reiki. In other words, the practitioner is able to transmit Reiki beyond physical touch. Absentee Reiki is a technique that originates in the 1920s with the creation of the system of Reiki by Master Usui
How Does Absentee/Distance Reiki Session Work and What Should I Expect?
You can schedule your Absentee Reiki Session with your Reiki Practitioner. Setting aside a specific time for the treatment enables you to be in a more receptive state (such as lying down or meditating during the session).
Clients often notice physical sensations during the Absentee Reiki session, just as they might when receiving a session in person. These might include warmth, tingling, or a sense of peace and relaxation. You might also notice the mind calming down or the alleviation of physical symptoms. Sometimes people feel quite alert and aware during the session, while others drift off. Either way is great.
What Should I Do To Prepare For My Session?
At the beginning of the session you’ll have a brief consultation by text , phone, or email to see what you want the session to support and to go over the Intake Form if it’s your first session.
While it’s not necessary for the treatment, if you like you can create a healing space for yourself by:
-Meditating or offering a prayer beforehand
-Setting your intention to heal yourself
-Lighting a candle
-Playing relaxing music
-Journaling about what you want from the session before, or about what you notice after.

What Happens During a (In Office)Reiki Session?
You lie on a table fully clothed for up to an hour. Most treatment rooms play soft music to create a peaceful atmosphere. During the session, you might become so relaxed that you fall asleep. During treatment, you might be able to feel energy being unblocked. Some people even experience a warm, cool, or tingling energy whereas other people simply have an overall feeling of relaxation.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
While every persons needs are different, 3 sessions is a good starting point to determine if Reiki is helpful with a particular issue. As with any physical, mental, or emotional challenge, chronic issues usually take longer than acute issues to resolve Many clients book a monthly session as a gentle form of self care.
